How often should I change the heater coil in my electronic cigarette?

How often you change the coil in an electronic cigarette depends mostly on how often you use it. Heavy vapers will need to change it more frequently than light vapers. If you smoked 20 cigarettes a day you would probably have to replace the heater coil every 7 days to ensure you are getting a nice consistent vape. If you are a light vaper every 2 weeks should be fine. Changing the coil is part of the maintenance of an electronic cigarette and is very easy to do. There are instructions on how to change the heater coil here. Relacing the heater coil costs £3.99 which is not a lot compared to the cost of buying 1 packet of 20 cigarettes which would cost about £8 per day on average.

Eventually your electronic cigarette heater coil will stop doing it's job and will need to be replaced. These are very simple to replace.

To change the heater coil in your Puff Away electronic cigarette follow the steps below.

1. first remove the battery.
2. second remove the base of the atomiser, as though you were going to fill up the liquid.
3. Put the liquid tank to one side, keeping it upside down so that the liquid does not spill out.
4. Hold the base with your left hand and with your right finger and thumb twist the top of the coil in an anti clockwise direction. This should require very little force. There are grooves on it to help stop your fingers slipping off.
5. Unscrew until the heater coil comes out completely.
6. Screw in your new heater coil in a clockwise direction, make sure it is screwed up tightly to prevent leaking but only use your hands, do not use tools as this can damage the threads.
7. Reassemble the liquid tank and battery and you are good to go.

I am getting a burnt taste from my electronic cigarette.

It is very important to never push the button on the battery when there is no liquid in the electronic cigarette. It's similar to boiling a kettle with no water in it. Inside there is a heater coil which is designed to heat liquid, if there is no liquid present then it burns the wick which causes a horrible burnt taste even if you put liquid in after. The only real solution to a burnt wick is to replace the heater coil

Always take care to never let your electronic cigarette run out of liquid.

Why is my electronic cigarette is bubbling?

Electronic cigarettes Usually gurgle or bubble because they have been overfilled. The best way to get rid of excess liquid is to get a paper towel then remove the liquid tank from the battery, place the paper towel where the battery usually is and then blow hard through the mouth piece. The liquid that was in the center tube that was causing the bubbling should come out of the small holes in the bottom and curing the problem. If that doesn't work then put the electronic cigarette back together and hold down the button for 10 seconds without inhaling, this should burn off any excess liquid.

The electronic cigarette battery is charged but I am not getting any vapour

There are a few reasons that can cause this to happen:

There is not enough liquid in the liquid tank. There is a wick inside which is similar to a candle wick, this absorbs the liquid which is to be vaporised. If there is not enough liquid in the tank then it cannot be vaporized. Simply put more liquid in to get more vapour out.

Another reason that this could happen is that the battery is not making contact with the liquid tank. If you take off the liquid tank and look down the battery, you will see a small round disc in the middle. This disc is attached to a spring (which you can't see) and they sometimes get stuck down. The picture below shows how to solve this problem by getting a small screwdriver and gently teasing the disc up.

This problem is almost always caused by stray liquid dripping down onto the battery and solidifying which causes the disc to stick down.

The disc in the centre, pictured above must make contact with the battery in order for your electronic cigarette to work. If the disc is very dirty, then it can't make contact with the liquid tank and no vapour will be produced. It is very important to keep this disc clean as it can also prevent the battery from charging.

Finally if you have checked all of the above and you are still not getting any vapour, then you probably need to change the heater coil. Depending on how much you vape, the heater coil inside will eventually become clogged up and will not function correctly. Below is a picture of a clogged coil and wick. They are extremely easy to replace. Just unscrew the old one and screw in the new one. If you are technically minded you can actually replace the heater wire and the wick but this is more tricky and probably best left to the experts.

The most common problem is that the battery has gone flat, I know that this sounds obvious but sometimes you don't put the battery on charge properly and you think it has charged but it hasn't. Try putting the battery on charge again and check that the LED light on the charger goes from green to red when you put the battery on charge. It will go green again when the battery is fully charged.

The second most common problem is that you push the button on the battery and nothing happens. Nine times out of ten you have accidentally activated the battery lock. To release the battery lock simply push the button five times in quick succession and the light will flash and it will be working again.

To lock the battery simply push the button five  times in quick succession and the light will go off. This feature is to prevent accidentally holding the button down whilst it is in your bag or pocket.

What is Vaping?

Higher concentrations of nicotine feels "rough" in the throat and you feel a stronger "hit" at the back of your throat which gives a more realistic smoking experience. Different e-liquid brands and the device you are using also affect the outcome.
